Canvas in a Browser

Log into Canvas. Once Canvas opens:

  • The Global Navigation Menu is located on the left side of the page in Canvas in a browser.
  • To view your user information, click the Account icon. A menu will expand and display links to access your user settingsnotification preferencespersonal files, and ePortfolios (if enabled). You can access your profile and update your profile picture.
  • The Dashboard is the landing page after you log in to Canvas. The Dashboard displays all of the courses as course cards or tiles.
  • To view your courses, click the Courses link. To customize your courses list or view all your Canvas courses, click the All Courses link.
  • To view your Calendar, click the Calendar link.
  • To send an email inside of Canvas and view your Conversations Inbox, click the Inbox link. Conversations is the Canvas messaging system where you can communicate or email your teachers.
  • To get help with Canvas, click the Help link. Students can search the Canvas Guides (made by Canvas), find help in APS in the “Students: Help with Canvas” section or ask their teacher a question by sending a Canvas inbox message in the “Ask Your Instructor a Question” section.
  • The sidebar To Do List on the far right of the Dashboard shows various action items in all your courses. Each item is associated with a specific course. Learn more about the To Do list here.
  • To open a course, go to the Dashboard and tap the course card. The course displays the navigation links such as announcements, modules and grades on the left and the home page on the right. Usually in APS the home page links to modules which are like file folders that hold all the pages, assignments and quizzes for a week or a unit. A module is an organizational unit in Canvas.
  • When students click on a module link the page displays the module. Students click on the first item in the module then use the next button to proceed through the pages, assignments, discussions and quizzes.
