Volunteer Spotlight on Molly Massey
Volunteers are the heart of many of Taylor’s activities, and this month’s volunteer spotlight shines on Molly Massey.
Massey is a quiet yet consistent presence at Taylor, whether it’s volunteering at the library, lending a hand in the classroom, or as an active member of the Taylor PTA, co-chairing the annual book fair and helping to plan the Taylor spring fair.
“She’s a volunteer that flies under the radar,” says Ursula Reilly, Taylor’s Librarian.
Massey’s volunteerism started at Taylor in 2018 when Cooper, her oldest, started kindergarten. She started off helping in the classroom, signing up for class parties, art in the classroom, and field trips.
By 2022, all three Massey children were attending Taylor, adding Harper, now a fifth grader and Maddie, a third grader. She’s continued her presence in the classroom but over the past three years has added volunteering in the library once a week and increased her involvement with the Taylor PTA activities.
Most recently, Molly offered her services to the Taylor front office, updating the message on the Taylor marquis each week.
Molly is the epitome of a supportive parent, says Cris Richardson, Taylor 3rd grade teacher. “She is one of the special strengths we have at Taylor – a parent who sees a need and fills it quietly, with dedication, and always with appreciation and gratitude to the staff,” she said.
“She is indispensable,” says Shannon Toole, Taylor’s Library Assistant. “Not only is she able to shelve an entire cart of books in record time, but she is ready, willing and able to jump in whenever

there is an issue.” Like the times when the library checkout system went down, Molly jumped in to help with checkout.
“She really is an amazing volunteer, and her smile, laugh, and willingness to pitch in brightens our Tuesdays every week!” says Toole.
Massey has her own reflections about volunteering at Taylor. “It has given me the opportunity to get to know other parents, and I’m grateful for the community that we have. I have also gotten to know many staff members well, and I see how hard everyone works to make Taylor such a kind, supportive and enriching school. I’m very thankful to all of you for giving my kids such a wonderful elementary school experience!”
