Taylor’s own Dr. A named APS’s Volunteer of the Month

This month, we are launching a new initiative to spotlight volunteers and partners who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and passion, and had a meaningful impact on students, staff, and the learning environment. Their stories highlight the power of community engagement and the difference one person or group can make in shaping educational experiences.

One such inspiring figure is Dr. Morris L. Aizenman—affectionately known as Dr. A—who has been a dedicated volunteer at Taylor Elementary for the past 14 years. A retired astrophysicist, Dr. A leads “Q&A with Dr

. A” lunch sessions three times a week, engaging groups of students from kindergarten through fifth grade in in

formal science discussions.

  • Dr. A’s journey to Taylor began through a program by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which places retired STEM professionals in schools across the DC metro area.
  • He treasures the opportunity to build relationships with students over time and is often welcomed back with excitement.

His influence extends beyond the school day—parents have shared how his sessions have transformed their student’s curiosity and engagement with learning.
