Taylor’s reading specialists support, supplement and extend classroom teaching, and work collaboratively to implement a quality reading program that is research-based and meets the needs of students.
Taylor’s reading specialists have specialized knowledge of assessment and diagnosis that is vital for developing, implementing, and evaluating the literacy program. They assess the reading strengths and needs of students and provide that information to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel such as psychologists, special educators, or speech teachers, in order to provide an effective reading program.
Taylor’s reading specialists promote literacy connections by serving as a liaison between classroom teachers, parents, and the community by doing the following:
- Conducting parent workshops
- Providing staff development on the latest trends, issues and practices in reading as well as writing
- Organizing and celebrating important literacy initiatives such as Read Across America and the African American Read In
- Promoting and instilling a lifetime love of reading in every student
